Advantages and safety of chlorine dioxide

2024-05-17

Broad spectrum: can kill viruses, bacteria, protists, algae, fungi and a variety of spores and spore-forming bacteria

Advantages:
Broad spectrum: can kill viruses, bacteria, protists, algae, fungi and a variety of spores and spore-forming bacteria
High efficiency: 0.1ppm can kill all bacterial propagules and many pathogenic bacteria, 50ppm can completely kill bacterial propagules, hepatitis viruses, bacteriophages and bacterial spores
Less affected by temperature and ammonia: the bactericidal effect is basically the same at low and higher temperatures
Wide range of pH application: can maintain high sterilization efficiency in the range of pH2 ~ 10
Safety and no residue: no chlorination reaction with organic matter, no three substances and other toxic substances
Advantages such as no stimulation to human body: when it is less than 500ppm, its influence can be ignored, and when it is less than 100ppm, it has no influence on people.
Security:
A large number of experimental studies abroad have shown that chlorine dioxide is a safe and non-toxic disinfectant, without "three-cause" effect (carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic), and at the same time, it does not react with organic matter in the disinfection process to generate organic chlorides or other toxic substances that can produce "three-cause. However, due to the strong oxidizing power of chlorine dioxide, it should be avoided at high concentrations (>500ppm). When the use concentration is less than 500ppm, its impact on the human body can be ignored, and when the concentration is less than 100ppm, it will not have any impact on the human body, including physiological and biochemical effects. There is also no sensitization to the skin. In fact, the regular use concentration of chlorine dioxide is much lower than 500ppm, generally only about tens of ppm. Therefore, chlorine dioxide is also internationally recognized as a safe and non-toxic green disinfectant.
Two results were obtained in the goldfish toxicity test and the mouse toxicity test: a. the safe concentration of ClO2 was 0.75mg/L, B. from the mouse acute oral toxicity test, ClO2 was a practical non-toxic water treatment agent.
Acute toxicity test, the highest dose of 10000 mg/kg stable chlorine dioxide, mice still no obvious symptoms of poisoning, diet and activities were normal. None of the animals in each group had a death table during the test. The oral LD50 was calculated to be> 10000 mg/kg.
Acute skin irritation, observation showed that 1 to 48 hours after the removal of the drug, the rabbit back application site skin did not appear erythema and edema and other irritation symptoms, the reaction score was 0.
Acute ocular mucosal irritation, into the rabbit eye conjunctival sac drip concentration of 9.7~11.4mg/L stable chlorine dioxide solution 5s, rinse with saline. Rabbit conjunctival blood vessels in 6h appeared mild congestion, to 24h symptoms disappeared, symptoms disappeared completely 48h. The integral index of 48h eye irritation in rabbits was 0, which was a non-irritating substance.
